Chatham-Kent police report that a man from Windsor has been charged with several offenses following an incident on Sunday that prompted a shelter-in-place advisory for locals.
The police issued the advisory after responding to a call regarding a possible weapons situation and forcible confinement on Queens Line just before 1 p. m., according to a news release from the Chatham-Kent Police Service on Monday.
A 28-year-old Windsor man, armed with a firearm, reportedly went to a home seeking an 18-year-old woman from Chatham, allegedly taking her against her will and sexually assaulting her.
At the time of the event, he was already violating conditions of a court-ordered release, police stated.
He was taken into custody and faces charges including:
Pointing a firearm. Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Sexual assault. Kidnapping. Failure to comply with a release order.
The accused is currently being held at Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters while awaiting bail.
Authorities mentioned that this incident appears isolated and there’s no ongoing threat to public safety.
