Premier Doug Ford visited Kenilworth on Wednesday morning to share that $29 million will be allocated to three projects in Wellington and Perth.
Ford was accompanied by Todd Mc Carthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure, Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae, and local mayors, including Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox.
This funding is aimed at expanding and improving rural water infrastructure in both Perth and Wellington counties.
“As part of our Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we’re expanding and upgrading the Arthur wastewater treatment plant, the Drayton sewage pumping station in Mapleton, as well as the Herbert Street sewage pumping station in West Perth and the reservoir in Perth East,” Ford stated. “These investments will enhance resilience during severe weather events, safeguarding more than 5,500 homes in the area and aiding in the construction of hundreds more to keep home ownership dreams alive for future families.”
Ford mentioned that this funding is part of a broader $875 million investment through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS).
“As we navigate economic challenges and unjust U. S. tariffs, our government is safeguarding Ontario by investing in essential infrastructure that promotes growth, generates jobs, and fortifies communities,” said Minister Mc Carthy. “Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we’re equipping municipalities and First Nations with the necessary resources to break ground on stronger communities. Our investments will yield more housing options, modernize aging water systems, and establish a foundation for long-term prosperity across Ontario.”
The funding distribution is as follows:
Township of Wellington North – $26,097,500 to expand the Arthur Wastewater Treatment Plant while upgrading the associated forcemain; plus replacing and enlarging the Drayton Sewage Pumping Station in Mapleton to ensure sustainable service for 2,330 existing homes.
The Municipality of West Perth – $2,053,125 allocated for the Herbert Street Sewage Pumping Station which helps maintain service for around 2,378 homes.
The Township of Perth East – $675,250 designated for Milverton Well Replacement along with Reservoir Rehabilitation benefiting 850 homes through improved water security.
“Our government is making significant long-term investments into rural infrastructure right here in Perth-Wellington,” stated MPP Rae. “This nearly $29 million commitment will enhance water systems, improve community resources and create new housing opportunities throughout Wellington and Perth Counties while supporting economic development to safeguard our communities for future generations.”
Mapleton Mayor Gregg Davidson, West Perth Mayor Walter Mc Kenzie along with Perth East Mayor Rhonda Ehgoetz were also present during this announcement.
