Waterloo Regional Police Service and the Ontario Fire Marshal are looking into a fire that broke out in Ayr, which left one person injured.

The firefighters responded to the scene on Northumberland Street in Ayr at around 9:15 a. m. on Monday. According to police, the building suffered “major damage,” leading to the closure of part of Northumberland Street along with several nearby streets.

The fire affected the top floor of a building that housed various businesses, including Hitched Coffee and Ayr Village Pizza. One individual was taken to the hospital with injuries that were reported as non-life-threatening.

The investigation into what caused the fire is still ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone who has information to reach out by calling 519‑570‑9777, extension 4496.

If you wish to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.

An update from township staff on Tuesday morning stated that only Northumberland Street remains closed between Stanley Street and Gibson Street. All other street closures have been lifted since then.
