A fire at the Hiram Walker distillery that shut down part of Riverside Drive in Windsor on Monday did not result in any damage that would disrupt the facility’s operations, according to Windsor Fire and Rescue Services.
Workers were taking apart old grain hoppers when the fire started, Acting Chief of Fire Prevention Chris Kreibich said.
“In the process of doing some hot works, there was a fire that developed in one of the old pieces of equipment that they’re demolishing,” Kreibich said.
“[There were] no injuries and no actual damage to any equipment that’s active or the building structure.”
The Windsor Police Service closed Riverside Drive between Devonshire Road and Montreuil Avenue while fire crews dealt with the situation, according to a post on the force’s X. com feed.
Police also blocked off Walker Road northbound from Wyandotte Street East.
Both roads have since reopened, police said on social media.
