According to Ontario’s police watchdog, a 35-year-old man who was shot by Windsor police on Friday has passed away.

The situation unfolded when officers were called to the vicinity of Thornberry Crescent and Roseville Garden Drive around 6:30 p. m., as reported by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

They responded to a report about a man with a knife engaged in a conflict with another individual.

The man armed with the knife fled, but officers located him shortly after, the SIU stated.

Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon, commonly referred to as a taser, and also fired shots at the man, according to the SIU.

The man was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is set for Sunday, as per the SIU’s statement.

A total of four investigators and two forensic specialists have been assigned to look into the case.

The SIU urges anyone who may have information related to this investigation, including any video or photographs, to reach out to the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or https://siu. on. ca/en/appeals. php.
