Ontario’s Ministry of Education has approved over $6.1 million in funding for an expansion at St. John Fisher Catholic School in Forest.
The project features a six-classroom addition, renovation and repurposing of two existing classrooms to enhance child care programs, upgrades to a kindergarten classroom, and the construction of a new 13-space parking lot.
St. Clair Catholic District School Board Chair John Van Heck mentioned that the project will raise the school’s capacity by 92 pupil places and create 18 additional child care spaces.
“St. Clair Catholic is very grateful for the ministry’s support of this project,” said Van Heck. “This funding announcement will be enthusiastically received by the Catholic community of Forest; and the project, once completed, will greatly improve the educational experience for our students at St. John Fisher.”
This initiative is part of a $1.6 billion investment by the Ontario government aimed at providing students with access to modern classrooms.
“Our government is focused on supporting students, teachers and parents while ensuring school boards are equipping our students with the tools they need to succeed,” said Minister of Education Paul Calandra, “Once completed, this project will offer an inspiring learning environment that helps students prepare for rewarding, in-demand careers.”
Board CEO Lisa Demers welcomed this good news.
“This is fantastic news for the students, staff and families at St. John Fisher Catholic School,” said Demers. “I would also like to thank CFO/COO and Treasurer Amy Park and her team for their great work in preparing a successful application for this important project.”
