A fresh opportunity for young entrepreneurs is set to take place in North Perth next month.
The Board of Directors at the Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Centre is launching the Children’s Business Market, providing local kids aged 7-15 with a chance to apply and showcase their businesses at this unique market. Director Jill Lewis believes that allowing young people to participate in such an event can help them gain valuable experience and boost their confidence as they aspire to become business owners.
“Having another venue where kids can come and do that kind of thing themselves, it’s a fun idea, and we’re really hoping the community will come out and support them. We’re calling them ‘agri-preneurs’ and it should be a lot of fun,” Lewis shared.
Lewis mentions that the businesses they create don’t have to be agriculture-focused, but farming does play a significant role in many enterprises anyway.
“Whether they recognize that or not, it’s a neat connection there. We just want to show the community that this is something we’re doing to give back, and this is exactly the kind of event we want to host regularly for the kids here,” she added.
The Children’s Business Market will take place on Saturday, November 28, 2026, from 9 a. m. – 12 p. m. at the Listowel Agricultural Hall. Space is limited so interested participants are encouraged to submit their applications early. More information will be sent out to those who apply. Applications can be found on the Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Centre’s social media pages or by emailing [email protected].
Lewis also notes that when the Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Centre is eventually constructed, they aim not only to keep hosting the Children’s Business Market but also hold it more than once each year.
“We’ll get it established now and get interest in it, and then it’ll be something we can continue once our centre is built in a few years. So my vision for it is to see this happening twice a year-once in fall and once in spring,” Lewis noted.
This event has generous support from the Listowel Agricultural Society.
