A trio of thieves recently learned just how skilled he is when they tried to steal his dad’s truck.

Let’s hope woke Canada doesn’t start demanding a registry for hockey sticks or something after this classic Canadian story.

Instead of calling 911 for help against carjackers, maybe we should just call Dayne. That’s exactly what this 17-year-old Whitby Wildcat hockey star did when three guys attempted to take his dad’s truck right out of their driveway at 1:40 a. m. on Dec. 10.

No waiting around here – he jumped into action!

“I first heard the smashing of the window, and I looked out and saw three guys around my father’s truck,” Dayne said in an interview while at the Silver Stick hockey tournament in Sarnia where he is spending time with his teammates this weekend. “I quickly got dressed and started to head out to see what was going on and I grabbed the first thing I could find on my way.”

Grabbed little sister’s hockey stick

No baseball bat or crowbar was handy. Instead, he found his little sister’s hockey stick. That would be more than enough to stop these crooks from getting away with his dad’s pricey Toyota Tundra TRD.

“The guy was inside it and the other two guys were outside, so I just started swinging that stick like crazy trying to get them to leave,” Dayne explained.

The thieves took off without hesitation. A whack from a hockey stick hurts-and leaves bruises too!

This worked well until one thief managed to grab hold of Dayne’s hockey stick and wrestled it away from him;

B ut they clearly didn’t expect this Canadian kid knew how to fight back too!

“That’s when I punched him,” Dayne said. “I gave him a right hook.”

Their response? They ran off like scared kids!These crooks have never faced off against a kid who plays defense before-especially one who once dressed as Don Cherry for Halloween! He was throwing down some classic Rock’em Sock’em moves here.

“Dayne can definitely hold his own on ice,” teased his dad Denny Deruchie about his son who used to play AAA level sports.

But sometimes things get messy,” laughed Dayne.

As a parent , Denny found himself conflicted.

“I’m proud of him,” he said regarding his son’s actions. “He saved my truck along with some work equipment.”

But still thinks it might not have been such a great idea,” Denny added.

His sister wasn’t very pleased either.

“She was upset that I used her stick,” Dayne noted.

Remember that some police officers have advised people just let thieves take their keys instead causing any confrontations. But all along , Dayne felt compelled not back down against those thugs. “They’re all pretty pumped about it; they think it’s really cool,” said Dayne-who hopes there won’t be another incident like this anytime soon. Since then , his family has taken several precautions so no one tries anything stupid again. Next time around if trouble arises , he plans on calling for help-the police-for sure; something he skipped doing earlier! It seems unlikely those guys will want revenge any time soon unless they’re geared up like players! “I know it may not have been my smartest decision,” admitted Dayane , but he feels good knowing he protected his father ‘s truck while ensuring everyone stayed safe.” That’s really what matters most-not forgetting that she got her beloved stick back!jwarmington
