Democrat Josh Turek is rolling out his final ads for the closely watched Iowa Senate contest, highlighting soaring fuel prices and the state’s alarming cancer rates as he challenges GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson.
The two s, which were first shared with NBC News, aim to portray Hinson as one of the “corrupt politicians” who has made life tougher for Iowans.
“Unlike Ashley, I’m not a millionaire. I’ll work to lower prices because it matters to me too,” Turek, a state legislator and former Paralympian, states in one ad filmed at a gas station, pointing out that gas and diesel prices in Iowa have surged dramatically.
In another ad, Turek features his sister, Ulette, sharing that her insurance refused to cover a scan while she fights breast cancer. Rising cancer rates have become a major issue in the Hawkeye State this year.
“In the Senate, I’ll fight to ensure that doctors decide care – not insurance companies. And I’ll take on corrupt politicians that get in the way,” Turek says as images of Hinson play on screen.
Turek is competing against Hinson to take over from retiring GOP Sen. Joni Ernst. The two final ads do not mention Trump, who won Iowa by 13 points in 2024. Recently, Trump visited Iowa to support Hinson, who has disagreed with him on some topics including calling for an end to the Iran war amid rising gas and diesel costs.
