The Region of Durham is set to widen and rebuild a key intersection in Whitby.

Construction will kick off on August 3 at the Rossland Road East and Thickson Road North intersection.

This work is expected to continue until June 15, 2027, with lane restrictions in effect. Construction will pause for the winter from December 1 to May 1.

Workers will be adding new right-turn lanes, upgrading traffic signals and streetlights, putting down fresh pavement markings and signage, as well as creating new sidewalks and a multi-use pathway to better serve all road users. The project also involves improvements to storm sewers, new subdrains, concrete curbs and gutters, along with repaving efforts aimed at enhancing drainage, prolonging the road’s lifespan, and minimizing future maintenance needs.

Traffic flow will be maintained throughout construction, with one left-turn lane and one through lane available in each direction at all times.

Drivers should expect some delays.
