Towns across the Durham Region are gearing up for Canada Day festivities on Tuesday, July 1. There will be public events, fireworks, and temporary changes to services and roads.
Residents can look forward to fun activities for families and evening fireworks as part of the celebrations.
Ajax
The Town of Ajax is set to host its Canada Day celebration from 2 pm to 10 pm at Ajax Downs (50 Alexander’s Crossing). The event will feature live entertainment, cultural performances, food vendors, and a fireworks show starting at 10 pm. Free shuttle bus service will be available; more details can be found at ajax. ca/Canada Day.
Ajax Fire and Emergency Services encourages everyone to attend professional fireworks displays. They emphasize the dangers associated with using personal fireworks, such as fires and injuries.
Service impacts in Ajax:
Community centres (Ajax Community Centre, Audley Recreation Centre, Mc Lean Community Centre) will be closed on July 1. Ajax Memorial Pool will provide free public swim from 1:30 to 4 pm with a non-perishable donation. Lane swims and other public swim times will continue with regular admission fees.
Whitby
Fireworks are returning in Whitby at Victoria Fields Park around 10 pm. Residents should bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the show. Personal fireworks are allowed only on July 1 from dusk until 11 pm on private property. The town requests that residents celebrate safely and respectfully. Pickering
Pickering’s Canada Day festivities will occur in Esplanade Park. To ensure safety during the event, several road closures will take place from Monday, June 30 at 7 am until Tuesday, July 1 at 9 pm:
The Esplanade North and South (between Valley Farm Road and the Pickering Civic Complex). Valley Farm Road (from The Esplanade North to Diefenbaker Court on July 1 between 11:30 am and 7 pm).
Certain areas of the Civic Complex parking lot will be designated for accessible parking only.
Oshawa
Oshawa’s Canada Day celebration at Lakeview Park kicks off at 2 pm and features family-friendly activities, live entertainment, pro wrestling matches, cultural performances, a nationwide drumming event at 2:30 pm, followed by fireworks at 10 pm sponsored by Tribute Communities. The opening ceremony starts at 4:30 pm.
Shuttles will operate between Oshawa Centre and Lakeview Park beginning at 1 pm and continuing after the fireworks show ends. General parking won’t be available without an accessible permit at Lakeview Park. Additional evening service on select Durham Region Transit routes will also be offered.

The Township of Uxbridge is hosting its Canada Day festivities at Elgin Park starting from6 PM. Expect family activities along with fireworks later in the evening when it gets dark. Entry is free!.
