Police are left with many questions after a six-year-old girl who disappeared from Whitby was found unharmed.

A short time after Durham police held a press conference asking for information about the missing girl, they announced she had been found safe in Mississauga.

While authorities reported that she was last seen with an “associate” of her father, it seems he and other family members have not been cooperative during this investigation.

The girl was reportedly left under the care of 48-year-old Blair Hamilton-whom police refer to as an “associate” of her father-on Saturday evening at a Mc Donald’s plaza located at Dundas St. E. and Thickson Rd. in Whitby.

CCTV footage showed her last being spotted around 12:10 a. m. on Sunday before she was later seen somewhere in Peel Region on Sunday afternoon.

“Given her age, and the circumstances of the investigation, we are extremely concerned for her well-being,” Sgt. Nicholas Gluckstein stated during a press conference on Tuesday morning.

Police not notified until Monday

Sgt. Gluckstein told reporters during Tuesday’s press briefing that they’re also trying to find the girl’s mother, Nicole Thompson.</pp “Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach the mother at all,” Gluckstein said.
“If she sees this information, we implore her to come forward and speak with our investigators. And if anybody knows the mother, we absolutely implore them to contact us so we get the information on her whereabouts.”
Gluckstein mentioned police weren’t informed about the child’s disappearance until Monday evening – two days later – following tips from her grandfather along with another concerned individual.
He noted that at some point she had been left with Hamilton under unclear circumstances.
“We have since spoken to the father, and unfortunately he has been uncooperative with us, which adds to our frustration and adds to lack of information,” Gluckstein said.
While he wouldn’t confirm if Hamilton had prior interactions with police or not; he did say they “had some interactions” which helped them identify him through surveillance footage.

The case hasn’t met criteria for abduction or Amber Alert

Gluckstein explained that investigators worked overnight looking for clues related to this situation involving missing girl both within Durham as well as Peel regions.
“They searched every lead,” he stated. “We’ve had our air support unit looking too; our drones were searching.”
He clarified how this investigation remains classified as a missing person case rather than one involving abduction which is why no Amber Alert has been issued.
“We explored options for Amber Alerts-there’s obviously strategic legislative processes involved regarding obtaining them,” he mentioned while adding they’re collaborating closely together alongside OPP officials managing Ontario’s Amber Alert system. “As we gather more details around this matter we’ll work towards meeting those thresholds necessary for issuing an Amber Alert.”Anyone who may have any leads or relevant information should reach out directly contacting Durham Regional Police Service via their number:905-579-1520.bpassifiumeX: @bryanpassifiumeShare this article within social media networks
