Fans rally for Kitchener Rangers ahead of Memorial Cup
Hundreds of Kitchener Rangers fans gathered outside Kitchener’s city hall Tuesday evening to celebrate the team’s recent Ontario Hockey League championship victory-their first J. Ross Robertson Cup title in nearly two decades. The community pep rally allowed fans to congratulate players in person and cheer them on as they head off to compete for the Memorial Cup in Kelowna, B. C., where CBC K-W’s Diego Pizarro spoke with fans and Kitchener Mayor Barry Vrbanovic during the event.
This Saturday afternoon, the Kitchener Panthers will be taking on Barrie but will return home Sunday for a game against the Welland Jackfish starting at 2:05 p. m.
The Guelph Royals have quite a packed schedule as well; they’re playing in London Friday night before hosting their home opener against the Brantford Red Sox on Saturday and then heading off to Toronto for a Sunday afternoon match-up.
