This weekend is special not just because of Valentine’s Day, but also Family Day on Monday, followed by the start of Ramadan, Lunar New Year celebrations, and Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Tuesday).

If you enjoy music, you’re in luck! The Tonewheels will be performing at The Boathouse in Kitchener on Sunday afternoon as part of their February residency, while Julianna Riolino takes the stage at Sonic Hall in Guelph on Saturday.

TWB Brewing in Kitchener is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a special event on Friday night featuring fire tables on the patio and music from DJ Big Tom.

Sunday Grind returns to downtown Kitchener with DJ Isamazing spinning tunes at Starbucks.

The Kitchener Rangers are away this weekend playing games in Kingston, Ottawa, and Peterborough.

The Guelph Storm will take on the Flint Firebirds on Friday night before heading out to face the Brantford Bulldogs on Saturday. They’ll be back home Monday afternoon for a game against the Erie Otters.

You can catch the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday too, which will feature Kitchener’s own Jamal Murray for the first time.

Galentines Day Run (or walk)

Saturday at 10 a. m.

The Gaslight District, 64 Grand Ave. S., Cambridge

Although Saturday is Valentine’s Day, this two-kilometre fun run is designed especially for ladies. Put on something fun, go at your own pace, and get your race photo taken! The River Rats Run Club hosts this event and they’re accepting donations for local organizations.

Hearts on Fire

Friday at 6 p. m.

Tapestry Hall, 74 Grand Ave., Cambridge

This performance by the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra features singers Joey Nicoforo and Sara Papini. Attendees can choose between enjoying a three-course meal or just attending the concert. Halfway There Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p. m., Sunday at 2:30 p. m. Elmira Theatre, 60 Arthur St. S., Elmira The Elmira Theatre Company presents this Norm Foster play about Sean, a heartbroken doctor who moves to a small town in Nova Scotia where secrets don’t stay hidden for long. If you miss it this weekend, don’t worry; it runs again next weekend!

Family Day

Picking just one event to highlight for Family Day is tough since there are so many options available on Monday:

Family Day Carnival from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m. at Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum in Kitchener requires tickets for the shadow puppet show. Enjoy balloon twisting, stilt walking, carnival games and snacks too! Family Day at the Market runs from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. at Kitchener Market featuring activities like percussion petting zoo experiences with Spiderman present along with live entertainment including balloon animals and face painting along with vendor scavenger hunts! Free outdoor screening of Angry Birds happens right after lunch around 1 p. m. in The Gaslight District located within Cambridge city limits while Mc Dougall Cottage opens its doors free-of-charge between noon through four o’clock pm inviting guests come sip hot chocolate & treats whilst exploring historical exhibits nearby situated around Grand Ave southward across town center! Messy Makers event occurs concurrently from noon until four hosted inside Schneider Haus where kids get hands-on crafting experiences while enjoying yummy Funfetti cookies freshly baked onsite during their visit too!.
