WASAGA BEACH, ON – The Town of Wasaga Beach is excited about a significant investment and healthcare achievement following the Province of Ontario’s announcement to add 288 long-term care beds through a new people Care Communities project in Wasaga Beach.

This project marks an estimated $100M investment in long-term care and healthcare facilities in Wasaga Beach. Once finished, it will be the community’s first long-term care home and the largest one in the South Georgian Bay area, helping to meet the rising demand for seniors’ care in one of Ontario’s fastest-growing towns.

The announcement represents a successful effort led by the Council that began in 2023 to establish long-term care services in Wasaga Beach.

Acknowledging the increasing need for local seniors’ care, Town staff were tasked by Council to investigate leading long-term care providers across Ontario and actively seek investment opportunities within the community. Collaborating closely with people Care, the Town helped pinpoint potential sites, explore development options, and back a feasible project proposal.

In 2025, Mayor Brian Smith and senior Town officials met with representatives from people Care Communities at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, where they directly engaged with Ontario’s Minister of Long-Term Care to advocate for this project and show that Wasaga Beach was prepared to proceed with a shovel-ready plan.

Today’s news confirms that their efforts have been fruitful.

“Wasaga Beach will soon have a long-term care home, an essential addition that will support a growing community while allowing more residents to stay close to family and local support networks,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “I was proud to collaborate with the Town of Wasaga Beach, people Care Communities, the County of Simcoe, and community partners to push for this initiative. This investment shows our government’s dedication to ensuring Ontario seniors can access quality care nearer to home.”

“Today’s announcement reflects the proactive leadership from the Town of Wasaga Beach and the strong partnership formed around our shared commitment to meeting local seniors’ needs,” says Megan Allen-Lamb, President of people Care Communities. “From day one, Mayor Smith, Council members and Town staff have been wonderful partners who worked alongside us throughout this journey while expressing genuine enthusiasm about what this project means for local seniors and their families. We truly appreciate their leadership, dedication, and support during this process. people Care is proud to be part of Wasaga Beach’s future and we look forward to working together further on bringing this vision into reality.”

Once completed, the new facility will offer 288 modern long-term care beds so that more seniors can stay near family members, friends, caregivers, and local support networks while receiving necessary assistance. Located just minutes away from beaches, shopping centers, healthcare services, and community amenities, this home will help residents maintain connections with their familiar surroundings.

The project is also set to create around 350 jobs-providing significant employment opportunities within healthcare and support sectors while reinforcing regional healthcare infrastructure suited for a growing aging population.

The upcoming people Care Wasaga Home is considered a Term of Council Priority. It aligns with Ontario’s ongoing efforts to build up or renovate long-term care beds throughout the province while modernizing existing facilities as well as improving access for senior citizens seeking care.

Quick Facts

Founded over 58 years ago, people Care Communities is a Canadian family-owned provider managing seven senior living communities across Ontario. people Care Communities has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and holds Accreditation Canada Exemplary Standing-the highest level awarded by Accreditation Canada regarding quality standards in healthcare as well as seniors’ services. The new people Care Wasaga Home will introduce 288 long-term care beds into Wasaga Beach; it will be both its first dedicated long-term facility as well as being recognized as South Georgian Bay’s largest modern facility. The Town initiated active pursuits toward investing in long-term care starting from 2023 by connecting with leading providers along with assisting developments within projects located at Wasaga Beach. In 2024 during AMO Conference meetings alongside people Care Communities’ representatives; Mayor Brian Smith along with senior officials engaged directly with Ontario’s Minister responsible for Long-Term Care advocating effectively on behalf of this endeavor. This initiative anticipates generating substantial job opportunities related specifically towards health sector employment within its region.
