A late-night fire broke out at a Wasaga Beach motel just before midnight, causing an estimated $2 million in damages and rendering the two-storey building unlivable.
Fire crews from Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, and Springwater rushed to the scene of the blaze at 45 Mosley Street, which is known as the Villa Nova motel. Fire Chief Craig Williams informed Barrie 360 that a large section of the second floor was lost to the flames, making the building uninhabitable.

At the time of the incident, there were four people inside. Fortunately, all managed to escape without harm.
One volunteer firefighter suffered an ankle injury and was taken to the hospital as a precaution; he has since received treatment and been released.
Emergency responders also rescued several animals from within the motel. “Several pets were also successfully removed from the structure by OPP officers and paramedics,” said Williams.
Fire officials state that it’s too early to determine what caused the fire.
Due to the significant loss, the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
The motel remains closed while investigations are ongoing.
