Following an attempted traffic stop for speeding in Wasaga Beach, authorities report that a man fled and was ‘intercepted’ by officers while heading east on Highway 26 in Clearview.

A man from Burlington is facing several charges after allegedly leading police on a chase through Wasaga Beach and Clearview yesterday morning.

Shortly after 10 a. m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, Huronia West OPP states that an officer tried to pull over a sedan that was reportedly speeding on Sunnidale Road South in Wasaga Beach.

Before the officer could get to the vehicle, police say the driver took off.

“Shortly after, the black sedan was intercepted and stopped by officers while travelling eastbound on Highway 26 in Clearview Township,” OPP stated in a news release.

The driver was arrested without incident, according to police.

A 28-year-old man from Burlington has been charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a release order, failure to comply with a probation order, possession of a forged document with intent, driving while under suspension, speeding, plate obstruction and use of a plate not authorized for the vehicle.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

The accused is being held for a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
