York Regional Police (YRP) officers have identified two male victims who were tragically shot outside a Vaughan home on Wednesday afternoon.
He said emergency crews were called to a residence on Kaiser Drive near Martin Grove and Langstaff roads just after 5:30 p. m. due to multiple reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, he mentioned that the two victims were found outside the home with several gunshot wounds. The two men were later pronounced dead.
“It’s absolutely shocking to the community here and to anyone who may have heard or seen anything. It’s not often that double homicides occur, especially in broad daylight,” Const. Kevin Nebrija said during an update late Wednesday.
Nebrija described the shootings as a “targeted incident,” but didn’t provide more details about the circumstances surrounding their deaths. He noted that one of the victims resided at the home where the shooting happened, while the second man lived nearby.
On Thursday, authorities revealed that the victims were identified as 49-year-old Pasquale Casciato and 34-year-old Christian Belsito, both hailing from Vaughan.
“While it is concerning for us, we do have our homicide investigators looking very much into it to find out who’s responsible and exactly why that happened today,” Nebrija stated.
He added there were people inside the house when the shooting occurred, noting there hadn’t been any prior reports indicating that the residence was targeted.
Nebrija further shared that officers received information about three males seen leaving the area in a blue SUV.
Sometime Wednesday evening, he mentioned emergency crews were alerted about a vehicle discovered on fire roughly 11 kilometers away from the shooting scene near Huntington and Kirby roads, close to Nashville Conservation Reserve.
Nebrija indicated there is information suggesting this vehicle matches what was reported as leaving the scene; however, investigators had not yet formally linked both incidents by Wednesday. He confirmed that officers are still processing this vehicle.
In addition, Nebrija stated investigators are seeking dashcam or surveillance footage from around the area as part of their ongoing investigation.
