Meanwhile, Musk contributed another $10m to Lone Star Liberty Pac, a group mainly supporting Paxton, according to records.
This financial movement highlights an important theme for Musk: Texas.
In recent years, the tech entrepreneur has been relocating his business ventures – including Space X, Tesla, and X – to the southern state after showing dissatisfaction with operating in California.
Texas provides Musk with fewer government regulations along with no personal income tax and no corporate income tax.
Keeping politicians who support fewer government restrictions in power, as Republicans typically do, could help sustain that favorable environment for Musk.
His significant spending in Texas and during the Texas Senate race suggests that Musk is aware of this dynamic, political analyst Cayce Myers told the BBC.
“Republicans have a fundraising advantage this time, but fundraising by itself does not actually guarantee success,” he said.
