Water and wastewater specialists from northwestern Ontario have come together in Thunder Bay for the 69th annual Northwestern Ontario Water and Wastewater Conference, which is being held on Thursday and Friday at the Delta Hotels by Marriott.
This yearly event unites water and wastewater operators, municipal officials, industry suppliers, government agencies, and other professionals to tackle new challenges, exchange knowledge, and discover innovative technologies in the field.
For over fifty years, the conference has offered technical training, professional growth opportunities, and networking for those tasked with ensuring safe drinking water, treating wastewater, and safeguarding the environment throughout the region.
“Water and wastewater professionals play an essential role in protecting public health and our environment, yet much of their work happens behind the scenes,” said Dr. Ian Morgan, executive board member and master of ceremonies.
Morgan mentioned that this conference continues a longstanding tradition of bringing industry experts together to share knowledge, build partnerships, and learn from each other.
The two-day event includes technical presentations, industry exhibits, and chances for delegates to interact with experts and policymakers. Organizers state that these discussions help municipalities stay updated on advancements in treatment technology, evolving regulations, and best practices within the industry.
City officials emphasize that dependable water and wastewater infrastructure is vital for healthy communities and long-term economic development. The conference showcases the collaboration and expertise needed to support progress across Northwestern Ontario.
The 2026 conference receives support from the CEDC Tourism Development Fund which aids in funding this enduring regional event.
