In just five weeks, the longest winning streak in American politics could come to an end.
Kansas hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.

However, Republicans are more worried than ever about losing that seat.
The Democratic candidate is Adam Hamilton, a megachurch pastor running a moderate populist campaign.
Marshall faces significant challenges as he has never dealt with a tough race before – and it shows.
He’s under heavy scrutiny regarding his past actions as a doctor prior to his Senate election.
The New York Times revealed that he sued 700 patients over unpaid medical bills.
Eighty-one of those patients were arrested for failing to appear in court after warrants were sought by Marshall’s attorneys.
This obstetrician and gynecologist typically charged patients an 18 percent interest rate on their medical bills.
Now, Hamilton’s campaign has launched an ad featuring a woman who claims she was arrested while eight months pregnant due to a $US50 ($70) unpaid bill.
Marshall responded with a cease-and-desist order against the ad, which he argues is defamatory.
“The unmistakable message to a reasonable viewer is that Senator Marshall caused a pregnant patient to be arrested and jailed for missing a single $50 payment,” stated his lawyers in their letter.

“That message is false in every material respect.”
Marshall has demanded that the ad be taken off the airwaves.
His defense states that the woman owed more than $US50 and was arrested for not attending court dates, rather than for her unpaid bill itself.

“The truth is what Roger Marshall did is extreme and hurt Kansans,” Hamilton expressed. p >
“Voters should know the truth about who their senator is and what he’s done.” p >
Other issues are negatively impacting Republican prospects in Kansas, such as rising diesel and fertilizer prices. p >
Trump also upset cattle farmers by allowing large beef imports into the country to lower prices. p >
At the Kansas State Fair, usually friendly territory for conservatives, Marshall was met with loud boos from attendees. p >
The tight race has led prominent Republicans to attack Hamilton based on his faith. p >
“We have got Dr Roger Marshall, a proud servant of this state, and a proud Christian to boot, versus a guy who would insult your faith and spit on your religion to accrue donations to himself,” said Vice President JD Vance. p >
“That is left-wing radicalism dressed in the skin suit of our religion.” p >

Vance’s remarks prompted rare criticism from David Wilson, bishop of the Great Plains Conference of The United Methodist Church.
“The language used, in effect, criticizes fellow Christians merely for living up to what Jesus taught in the Gospel texts.
“A reading of the parable of sheep and goats found in Matthew 25 is helpful for reference.”
Hamilton’s church ranks as the largest one in Kansas.
A recent Emerson College poll showed Hamilton leading by one point over Marshall.
This narrow result falls within the margin of error but certainly raises concerns among Republicans.
The party also lags behind in other traditionally conservative states like Texas, Alaska, Ohio and Iowa.
