Members of the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives are looking to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and might start the process if they have a good outcome in the midterm elections, according to a Friday report from the Wall Street Journal.

“One of the first things we’re going to do when we gain the majority is run Pete Hegseth out of town,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries during a rally in Pennsylvania this month. The WSJ also noted that Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal described Hegseth as “incompetent and, frankly, corrupt” in a CNN interview.

Democratic Rep. Jared Huffman referred to the secretary as an “unhinged fanatic who should be impeached and removed from office,” according to the WSJ.

In September, Republican US Representative Thomas Massie, who has been vocal against military actions towards Iran and support for Israel, filed articles of impeachment against Hegseth, claiming he abused his position by initiating hostilities against Iran without Congressional approval.

Massie mentioned that he plans to push for an impeachment vote soon after Congress reconvenes on Nov. 9, which is just after election week, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Reuters shared that Hegseth confirmed his meeting but did not provide details about his conversation with Netanyahu.

As per a KAN News report on Tuesday, discussions mainly focused on Iran.

The meeting reportedly included Defense Minister Israel Katz; however, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and other senior Israeli officials were not present due to confidentiality concerns.

Ariella Roitman, Amichai Stein, and Idan Kweller contributed to this report.
