For Toronto Maple Leafs fans who aren’t exactly excited about facing either Tkachuk brother, their schedule just got tougher with the news that Brady Tkachuk has been traded from one major Atlantic Divisional rival to another.
Brady Tkachuk, who was the captain of the Ottawa Senators and had been with the team since being picked in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft, is now playing alongside his brother Matthew Tkachuk after being acquired in a significant summer deal with the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers could end up having one of the most disliked lineups in the NHL when it comes to on-ice pests and agitators, now featuring both Tkachuk brothers along with Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett.
While the Senators have announced plans to honor their former captain with a video tribute during his matchup against them at Canadian Tire Centre in late October, one prominent Toronto sports figure isn’t holding back on criticizing this decision.

According to well-known Toronto media figure Sid Seixeiro, there’s no reason for the Senators to spend time honoring Tkachuk when he returns to Ottawa next month with the Panthers.
“The Ottawa Senators this week did talk about the Brady Tkachuk return on Wednesday, October 21st, at Canadian Tire Centre, and he let it be known there will be a welcome back video for Brady Tkachuk that night in Ottawa,” he said. “But let me put this on the table: How many Sens fans are going to be there on October 21st and go home and go, ‘I’m really disappointed that we didn’t honour the coward who demanded his way out of town back on June 21st’? Man, this pis*es me off. Not everyone deserves the video.”
He continued:
“They don’t care about you,” he said. “Why do you care about their video? It’s pathetic. This stuff has to end across all sports. Brady Tkachuk was done with you 18 months ago, and you knew it. Do not honour this guy. He’s spat in everyone’s face. He lied to you on his way out. Don’t thank him with a video, please.”

Brady Tkachuk Was Traded From The Senators To The Panthers Earlier This Summer
Tkachuk helped lead the Senators to consecutive Stanley Cup Playoffs earlier this spring but requested a trade from Ottawa, as confirmed by GM Steve Staios. The Senators traded him to Florida in exchange for two first-round picks (No. 9 and No. 25) in the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft along with another conditional first-round pick in 2029 and a second-round pick for 2027. Throughout his career spent entirely with Ottawa before moving to Florida, Tkachuk has scored 213 goals and provided 250 assists over 572 career games. He also added four goals and three assists over ten playoff games. On an international level, he (alongside brother Matthew) helped Team USA win their first gold medal since 1980 at the Milan Winter Olympics in 2026 by defeating former Maple Leafs player Mitch Marner’s Team Canada for gold.
