As the Toronto Maple Leafs work through a busy off-season, changes in the front office are still underway.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that the Maple Leafs have received permission from Minnesota to talk with Judd Brackett, who serves as the Wild’s director of amateur scouting. This would be for an assistant general manager role in Toronto.
This news follows a report by The Athletic’s Michael Russo, which mentioned that Brackett is leaving the Wild for “an elevated position for another team.” The experienced scout has led Minnesota’s last five drafts and his contract is set to expire soon.
If Brackett decides to join Toronto, he’ll be part of a newly restructured front office led by GM John Chayka and senior executive advisor Mats Sundin. They took over this off-season after Brad Treliving was let go in March.
The Leafs’ front office will need to tackle several important tasks, including hiring a new head coach after Craig Berube’s exit and figuring out what to do with the No. 1 pick in next month’s draft.
This past season, the Maple Leafs ended with a record of 32-36-14, placing eighth in the Atlantic Division. This marked their first missed playoff appearance since 2016.
