Provincial police report that a 22-year-old man has died after a motorcycle accident in Pickering, Ont., late Saturday night.
In a news release Saturday morning, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) indicated that officers were called to Highway 401, between Brock Road and Westney Road, just before 2:30 a. m.
The man, who was from Scarborough, was declared dead at the scene after crashing into an electronic sign board within a construction zone, according to the OPP’s post on social media platform X Saturday morning.
Reports suggest that the motorcycle was traveling at a high speed, as noted by OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in a video shared on X. The man was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries as a result, he added.
Sgt. Schmidt confirmed that the man’s family has been informed.
Highway 401 was closed westbound at Westney Road approaching Brock Road for an extended period while authorities conducted their investigation, as mentioned in an earlier post by the OPP on X.
The OPP later updated that the road has since reopened.
