The fifth annual Tillsonburg Turtlefest is set to take place this weekend with the opening ceremonies and block party happening downtown on Friday night.
The fifth annual Tillsonburg Turtlefest is just around the corner, kicking off with opening ceremonies and a block party in downtown Tillsonburg on Friday night.
There will be lots of activities for everyone throughout the weekend, including live music, a magic show, contests and games, an animal display, an ice cream booth, and much more. Event Coordinator Suzanne Fleet shares with Heart FM how they chose the name Turtle Fest. “The founder of our town George Tillson, before he passed away he said he was going to come back as a turtle to see how his town is doing, so a few years after he passed some people were down at Otter Creek and found this big huge turtle and thought oh this must be George, so that’s how it got started and when we were thinking of a name for a new Festival we thought we would honor Tillson by calling it Turtlefest.”
Fleet mentions that this year’s festival is shaping up to be one of the best yet. The three-day event kicks off with Friday night’s block party where visitors can enjoy live music, a magic show, and connect with local businesses as they bring fun activities to the festival. On Saturday, families can find affordable turtle-themed fun all over town including an activity extravaganza at Memorial Park fairgrounds for one price, free fun at Annandale NHS, plus many more activities at Lake Lisgar and the Tillsonburg Station Arts Centre. Finally, on Sunday dog lovers and athletes can unwind while watching the Ultimate Air Dogs Show. Activities for Turtlefest will take place at Memorial Park Fairgrounds, Crompton’s Home Hardware, Lake Lisgar, Tillsonburg Station Arts Centre and Memorial arena.
