Last Wednesday’s Canada Day festivities at Memorial Park stirred up quite a discussion among Tillsonburg locals.

The Town of Tillsonburg released information explaining the issues that arose.

According to staff, the Bandshell had been booked by a third-party individual who hired a DJ, and some inappropriate language was used that didn’t align with the Town’s values.

Additionally, during the fireworks show, the computer system meant to control the ignitions and timing malfunctioned, resulting in an earlier finish than intended despite attempts from the operator to fix it.

The contractor has taken responsibility for what happened and has agreed to host a “makeup” fireworks display on Labour Day, which falls on Sunday, September 6th. More details will be provided as we get closer to the event.

The Town is committed to ensuring that all entertainment at family-friendly events will be suitable for everyone attending on Town property and looks forward to doing just that for Labour Day.
