Residents of Tillsonburg are gearing up for the annual Taste of Summer event, and this year, there’s even more buzz thanks to the recent chilly and rainy weather.
This yearly fundraiser for the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation kicks off at noon on June 6 and goes until 8 p. m. Sponsored by 3E Power Corporation Ltd, the event will feature all the usual fun, but organizers are encouraging attendees to bring their lawn chairs.
Musical performances that used to be tucked away will now take center stage in front of everyone.
“Bring a lawn chair and spend the afternoon or evening in the park listening to local music,” said Gerry Dearing, executive director of the foundation.
The musical line-up kicks off with Fred Hodgson performing a variety of tunes starting at 2 p. m. Local artist Sydney Barnabi will follow at 3 p. m., focusing mainly on country music. Carter Nevill will entertain from 4 to 5 p. m., and Stunt will take over from 5 to 6 p. m.
Ten food trucks will be set up in a circle around the stage, offering something delicious for everyone. A new addition is Kinsmen’s stand featuring burgers, fries, and hot dogs. Also new this year are Soda Street with its ice cream sodas and 180 Coffee. Returning favorites include Shaw’s Ice Cream Cool Convenience, Funnel Cake Factor, JTK Meats, Nectar, and Poppin’ Kettle Corn. There’ll also be a beer tent in front of the stage serving Power House Brewing products along with family-friendly tents.
The Flying Furballs dog show promises to wow attendees with an agility demonstration. Captain Corbin’s Magic Show will provide entertainment for kids both on stage and as he mingles through the crowd. Reptalia from London plans to display reptiles that may thrill some visitors while giving others chills. Little Hobby Hill Farm will have a petting zoo that has been popular in previous years. Plus, there’ll be inflatable slides, a youth inflatable obstacle course, and a trackless train available at the event.
The vendor village features over 20 vendors selling various arts, crafts, and home goods. The TDMH Volunteer Association will host a 50/50 draw where proceeds go towards supporting the foundation.
Taste of Summer stands out as one of the hospital foundation’s major fundraisers each year alongside their golf tournament. Admission is by donation.
The foundation collects funds for hospital equipment that isn’t covered by Ministry of Health funding. A display showing equipment needing replacement will be set up in one of the tents within vendor village.
