Events are planned at the Ingersoll library and the Tillsonburg library this Saturday.

OXFORD COUNTY – The Oxford County Library (OCL) is gearing up for its fourth annual Oxford Local History Day.

This event will happen on Saturday, April 20th, and it’s a great opportunity to explore and appreciate the stories that have shaped Oxford County into what it is today.

OCL branches in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg will celebrate with interesting presentations from local historians and fun activities for everyone. Attendees can also enjoy collections, exhibits, and highlighted stories from various archives, museums, and heritage groups across Oxford County.

The Ingersoll Library’s event will run from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. and will feature two main presentations. These include “Unlawful Behaviours: Female Deviants in the Oxford Jail” presented by Rebecca Beausaert, Adjunct History Professor at the University of Guelph. Additionally, Western University Associate History Professor Cody Groat will discuss “Potter’s Field at Ingersoll Rural Cemetery: Sharing Lost Stories,” remembering those buried there, including individuals who were once enslaved or unhoused.

The Tillsonburg Library will host its event from 9:30 a. m. to 3:00 p. m., featuring a scavenger hunt suitable for all ages, beeswax candle making for kids aged 8-12 (registration required), and “Tillsonburg Time Machine,” presented by Matthew Griffis with help from the Annandale National Historic Site, Oxford County Archives, Laurel Beechey, and Joan Weston.

You can find more details about Oxford Local History Day along with information on events and presentations on their website.
