Nasa Engineers Use ‘Big Bang’ Strategy To Extend Voyager 2’s Mission
Almost 48 years after its launch, NASA engineers have discovered a method to keep Voyager 2’s mission alive for at least another year. This initiative, referred to as the “Big Bang,” involved shutting down certain powered devices and replacing them with lower-energy alternatives while ensuring the spacecraft remains warm enough to operate. Voyager 2 runs on radioisotope thermoelectric generators that convert heat from decaying plutonium into electricity. As the plutonium fuel gradually diminishes, Voyager 2 loses approximately 4 watts of power each year. After nearly five decades in space, its power levels are quite limited, which has compelled engineers to save energy by turning off nonessential systems.

We’ve heard buzz about it before but like many things at Oshkosh we weren’t sure if it was true-the Hummel Multi-Cruiser is actually flying.. and you can expect kits within just a few months! It technically fits into ultralight criteria though Hummel suggests operating it under E-AB categories along with MOSAIC provided you receive proper training first.
