This year, the town is gearing up for what might be its most thrilling collection of spooky events ever for Halloween 2025.
The initial buzz around the new Halloween event, titled Eerie Encounters, has been fantastic. This event marks the town’s very first guided ghost tour. Naomi Dube, the Marketing coordinator for Downtown Tillsonburg BIA, thought of this idea after noticing that many towns have similar ghost tours.
“Tillsonburg has a lot of ghost stories so why aren’t we doing this,” she mentioned about her original concept.
Dube, whose father Dan Dube used to teach at Rolph Street Public School, recalled that he and other teachers had “spooky encounters” at the school. That sparked her interest in researching local hauntings. She soon added locations like Seven Gables, Station Arts Centre, and the Copper Mug building to her list.
With help from historical writer Jason Pankratz and paranormal investigator Sarah Kennedy-who’s originally from Delhi-Dube began crafting the tours.
“When she saw this opportunity was there, she was excited,” said Dube. “She has done her own investigating in these buildings, so it’s kind of cool she has her own stories to share.”
Kennedy will guide tours on Oct. 23, 24, and 25. According to Dube, the tour combines ghost tales with local legends and history as well as stories about secret societies. It’s been so popular that it’s already sold out.
The haunted house at Tillsonburg Town Centre is set to be larger than ever before.
“This is our biggest haunt yet,” stated Vanessa Fortner, events and marketing coordinator for the BIA.
Last year’s haunted house was located on the main floor of Tillsonburg Town Centre; this time it’s moving upstairs into a space that’s three times bigger.
The haunted house comes together thanks to Scott Foster and Bruce Bennett from Coffin Man Inc., along with Chip Barkhouse and Mike Bolt. Additionally, Stacy Hantz donates many props while several local businesses provide supplies; meanwhile, Tillsonburg Town Centre generously offers up its space.
Admission is either a donation to the food bank or $2. The haunted house will open on Thursday, Oct. 23 and Friday, Oct. 24. On Saturday from 2 to 5 p. m., it will tone down some scares for younger ghosts and goblins but will ramp up again from 5 to 9:30 p. m.
Last year’s Witches Night Out took place at Station Arts Centre featuring vendors perfect for Halloween night. However, Fortner noted that this year’s event has taken “a wicked turn” by expanding throughout downtown.
