The body discovered in Lake Ontario has been confirmed to be that of a missing man from Hamilton.

Hamilton Police stated they received a report about a body along the shoreline, behind the Stelco property at 386 Wilcox St., around 8 a. m. on Friday, May 29.

On Monday, authorities confirmed that the deceased was Marcin Sydor, aged 48.

Sydor had been reported missing since April 27 and was last seen driving a black Jetta with tinted windows in Hamilton on April 21, as noted by police in a previous announcement.

Police described his disappearance as “out of character and inconsistent with his usual behaviour.”

A post-mortem examination revealed that Sydor’s death was classified as homicide. The cause of death and specific details regarding his injuries are currently withheld to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation, according to police.

The Homicide Unit is now leading the investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Sydor’s death and identify those responsible.

Investigators are urging anyone who interacted with Sydor, saw him, or has information about his activities before his death to reach out to the police.

They are also looking for details related to his Volkswagen Jetta.

If you have any information, please contact Detective Tom Kersgens of the Homicide Unit at 905-546-4167. For anonymous tips, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit Crime Stoppers Hamilton’s website.
