New Fires Detected in Northwest
Two new wildfires were confirmed in the northwest region on Friday. Nipigon 83 (NIP083), located near the southwest side of Sim Lake about 23 kilometers northwest of Kagianagami Lake, covers five hectares and is not under control. Nipigon 84 (NIP084), situated along Lake Nipigon’s shoreline approximately 11.5 kilometers west of Beardmore, spans only 0.2 hectares and is also not under control. A restricted fire zone continues across most parts of northwest region and a small section of northeast for zones one through thirteen.Highway Closures Update
The province’s interactive highway map shows that Highway 527 at Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek – Gull Bay First Nation – remains closed all the way up to Highway 811 junction. Highway 811 is also shut down due to ongoing wildfire activity except for local traffic evacuating from affected areas.</P The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) strongly advise people for their safety and that of emergency responders:</P Keep clear from affected regions; avoid visiting wildfire sites just for photos or videos. Follow evacuation orders and instructions given by local authorities without panic. Stay away unless travel is essential within impacted areas.
