A teenager was badly hurt after an assault in St. Thomas, according to police.
Officers responded on Thursday around 3:15 p. m. to a report of a young person attacked by two men who drove away in a grey sedan, as stated by St. Thomas police in a news release over the weekend.
When they arrived, officers found a 16-year-old who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police reported.
Investigators believe the assault was triggered by an earlier encounter involving the teen and a dog near Princess Avenue, according to police.
No one has been arrested yet in connection with this case.
“There is nothing to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety,” police officials mentioned in the news release. “This remains an active investigation.”
Authorities are asking anyone who saw what happened or was nearby at that time to reach out to St. Thomas police at 519-631-1224.

The provincial police have kicked off a campaign aimed at addressing unsafe driving habits across Southwestern Ontario.
The “Stop. Look. Live” initiative focuses on actions that lead to crashes at intersections, including distracted driving and motorists ignoring stop signs or failing to yield.
The main aim of this effort is prevention, but drivers could face enforcement action if necessary, said the OPP.
“Our focus is not on issuing tickets – it is on preventing tragedy,” Staff Sgt. Julie Mc Leod from the OPP traffic and marine unit said in a statement.
