A 53-year-old man has lost his life after a wheel came off a truck on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Tuesday, hitting two other vehicles and resulting in the death of one driver, according to police.
The incident took place around 11:45 a. m., when a wheel detached from a pickup truck in the Fort Erie-bound lanes, just east of Niagara Street in St. Catharines, Ont.
“The wheel travelled into the Toronto-bound lane, striking two vehicles,” said Ontario Provincial Police Const. Rob Tihor on X.
Both directions of the highway were closed for most of the afternoon while authorities conducted their investigation. OPP announced that by 6 p. m., the Fort Erie bound lanes had reopened and that the Toronto bound lanes were expected to be clear by around 6:30 p. m.
