A man from St. Catharines has been taken into custody following an alleged homicide that occurred on Friday morning, as reported by local authorities.
Niagara Regional Police Service received a call to a home on Lakeshore Road shortly before noon about an assault.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with “traumatic injuries.” He was quickly transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The police have yet to release the name of the victim.
Not long after, detectives found a man at a nearby residence whom they suspect was responsible for the attack. He was arrested and identified as 34-year-old Brandon Marzec.
According to police, Marzec sustained an injury during his arrest and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), has been informed and has activated their mandate.
In the meantime, Marzec faces one count of second-degree murder and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for Saturday.
