TORONTO – Voters are going to the polls today in three Ontario provincial byelections, with at least one contest anticipated to be competitive.
Candidates report that ongoing issues like health care, education, and cost of living were frequently mentioned as they visited homes, but concerns about the trade conflict with the United States also emerged as a significant worry for voters.
Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives aim to retain two seats while the New Democrats hope to keep hold of the third.
Candidates are gearing up for a tight race in Hamilton-Stoney Creek after conservative Neil Lumsden stepped down in August.
The contest in Scarborough Southwest is likely to see a showdown between the New Democrats and the Liberals, while the Progressive Conservatives are expected to maintain control of York-Simcoe following Caroline Mulroney’s resignation.
