On Dec. 3, Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the 2024-25 EQAO assessment test results. The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) showed better results in Grade 3 and Grade 6 language as well as Grade 9 mathematics compared to last year, along with meeting the provincial standard for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). These outcomes continue a trend of improvement seen in previous EQAO assessments, highlighting a growth in student achievement over time as they prepare for graduation. “We are proud of the efforts of SCDSB students who participated in the 2024-25 EQAO assessments,” says Dawn Stephens, director of education. “The SCDSB has dedicated staff time and resources to creating meaningful and current programs to support student achievement in math and literacy, and those efforts are having an impact with students in our classrooms.” EQAO assessments provide valuable information that informs the work done by SCDSB. School and board staff analyze EQAO data alongside other assessment, well-being, and engagement data to understand student needs and how best to address them. Some highlights include: Grade 3 reading – 70 per cent met the provincial standard, which is a two per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment Grade 6 reading – 82 per cent met the provincial standard, which is a five per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment Grade 6 writing – 81 per cent met the provincial standard, which is a seven per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment Grade 9 mathematics – four per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment OSSLT – 85 per cent met the provincial standard The SCDSB will keep focusing on supporting students, building core skills, offering professional development for educators, and providing opportunities and resources for families to enhance learning at home. *************************
