The unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region saw a small uptick in May.
Recent data from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board (FCLMPB) indicates an increase of 0.7 percentage points in the unemployment rate.
This rise was the highest in the province, bringing the region’s unemployment to 5.9 percent. Still, this remains the lowest rate among all regions in Ontario.
The overall provincial unemployment rate for May dipped by 0.1 percentage points to 7.4 percent, with both rates unadjusted for seasonality.
In May, the total population aged 15 and over in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region grew by 300, while the labor force expanded by 1,100 people. The number of individuals not participating in the labor force dropped by 800, which increased the region’s participation rate by 0.3 percentage points to 60.4 percent.
Current job listings for Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth regions have been on the rise since the pandemic and can be accessed at www. connect2JOBS. ca. There are now over 1,500 job postings available.
“This month’s statistics provided us with some very positive signs for our region’s workforce,” said Dana Soucie, Chief Executive Officer for the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. “Increases in full-time employment, an increase in labor force size, a decrease in those not in the labor force and gains in some sectors we have been previously seeing declines show promising changes.”
