This October, drivers on roads patrolled by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) may see an increased police presence.

The OPP West Region has kicked off a three-week safety initiative called Project Safe Haul.

“Commercial vehicle safety is a shared responsibility. Through Project Safe Haul, OPP officers will be working proactively with industry partners to identify safety concerns, ensure compliance, and remove unsafe vehicles from Ontario roads,” said OPP Staff Sergeant Lynn Mc Nichol with West Region Traffic and Marine. “Our goal is simple: safer highways for everyone.”

According to the OPP, officers will be out in force conducting inspections, educating drivers and carriers, and addressing any violations that may compromise public safety.

Tractor trailers will be checked for defects involving brakes, tires, steering components, and cargo securement.

Provincial police intend to provide updates throughout the campaign.

Project Safe Haul runs from October 13 until November 1.
