Severe thunderstorms on Wednesday evening caused power outages for many Bluewater Power customers.
The utility managed several weather-related outages in Point Edward and Sarnia, including fallen trees. All power was back on by 2:30 a. m. Thursday.
A severe thunderstorm watch that was issued just after 12 p. m. Wednesday was upgraded to a warning around 5:30 p. m., followed by a short tornado warning less than two hours later.
Environment Canada cautioned that the area might experience wind gusts close to 100 km/h, hail the size of toonies, and heavy rain. The weather agency indicated that some locations could see more than 40 mm of rainfall.
Residents were advised that there could be power outages, damage to infrastructure, and flash flooding.
At 7:07 p. m., a tornado warning was announced, along with an alert to take cover immediately if severe weather is approaching.
