The Municipality of Leamington is set to revisit its earlier decision about backing the bid to host the 2027 Ontario Gymnastics Championship.

<p. Councillors had initially voted in favor of the bid during a council meeting on March 10. If they win the bid, the ice will need to be taken out of the Highbury Canco Arena in March 2027.

This could disrupt the Leamington Flyers’ junior hockey season.

At that same council meeting, councillors pointed out that the Flyers hadn’t signed a Memorandum of Understanding for using the arena in the coming year, despite efforts to meet with them.

Now, both the Leamington Flyers and the Municipality of Leamington have confirmed they’ve met to talk about junior hockey’s future in town.

After these discussions, an MOU has been completed and the Flyers will keep playing in Leamington.

A Notice of Reconsideration regarding their support for hosting the 2027 Ontario Gymnastics Championship will be discussed at the next Council meeting on March 24, 2026.
