Dr. Alexandra Ferrara has been awarded the prestigious Leonora Sheppard Award in Family Medicine from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
This award highlights a Family Medicine Resident who shows exceptional clinical skills and comes with a $24,000 prize.
The recipient is chosen based on their dedication to providing thorough community Family Medicine and their plans to establish a medical practice in Ontario after finishing their residency.
Dr. Ferrara grew up in Chatham. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Western University and earned a Master of Public Health from Brock University before obtaining her medical degree from the University of Limerick.
“I am incredibly thankful to receive the Leonora Sheppard Award,” said Dr. Ferrara. “Being recognized for my commitment to comprehensive community Family Medicine is an absolute honour. I am truly excited to continue practicing in Ontario and look forward to supporting the health and well-being of our communities as I transition into my full-time practice.”
She intends to start her own Family Medicine practice in Chatham-Kent.
“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Ferrara for earning this meaningful recognition,” said Dr. Lindsey Sutherland, Chatham-Kent Regional Academic Director, Distributed Education at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. “She is highly deserving of this award, and her passion for supporting local health care makes her an exceptional asset to our community and the broader provincial health care system as a whole.”
