Get ready, because Captain Kidd is heading to Corunna this weekend!

The celebration spans several days, and this 41st edition promises to be more exciting than ever.

“We’ve got some great activities for kids starting Thursday night. We’ll have our movie night featuring Zootopia Two, and along with that, we’re bringing in a local animal rescue zoo,” shared Chairperson for Captain Kidd Days Geoff Dale. “On Friday night, Captain Kidd arrives at the Ferry Dock at 6 p. m. He’ll parade down Hill Street to the park where we officially kick off Captain Kidd Days. We’ll see our best-dressed pirate competition, hear from dignitaries, and start our ball tournament. Plus, there’s a junior and senior battle of the bands followed by evening entertainment. Then on Saturday, it’s a whole day filled with tournaments.”

From Thursday July 30 to Sunday August 2, there are tons of events planned including sports tournaments, a kids zone with inflatables, food trucks, a parade and live music. There’s something fun for everyone.

“We’ll have a skateboard demonstration and a youth maker market along with various sports activities throughout the day like soccer tournaments, ultimate frisbee, karate classes, jelly ball games and more; then we’ll wrap up on Sunday with fireworks and evening entertainment,” said Dale. “Friday after 9 p. m. is for ages 19 plus only while Saturday is after 8 p. m., but Sunday welcomes all ages so families can come out to enjoy the fireworks.”

The parade starts Saturday morning at 11 a. m., going through downtown Corunna beginning at Thompson Gardens along Lyndoch Street up Fane Street ending at Corunna Athletic Park. If parades aren’t your thing though, there’s also a car show alongside live music.

“On Friday night we’ve got performances by 89 Next and Painkiller Jane; on Saturday it’ll be Song Machine and Highway 21; then on Sunday our Battle of the Bands winner will kick off our evening followed by Upside of Maybe closing out the night,” he added.

This entire weekend is brought to life thanks to community organizers and sponsors.

“Shell has been our title sponsor for I believe the 15th consecutive year! It really shows how fortunate we are that even in a tough economic year we’ve had our highest number of sponsors yet who continue to support us in making this event happen,” he noted.

The tradition of Captain Kidd Days started back in 1985. For more details about what’s happening this year check out the Captain Kidd Days website.
