Police report that a carjacking took place at a home near Yonge Street and Edgar Avenue.

York Regional Police have charged three individuals with carjacking in Richmond Hill.

On Nov. 7 around 1:30 a. m., three suspects showed up in a grey Acura RDX, with one staying in the vehicle while the others confronted the victim, demanding his keys for the Mercedes G-Wagon and his cellphone, according to police.

The Provincial Carjacking Task Force along with York Regional Police identified Thomas Apostolopoulos, 19, from Toronto, Moti Ahmed, 21, from Vaughan, and Andrew Tyler Marin, 22, also from Vaughan. They are facing charges of robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Additionally, Apostolopoulos has been charged with dangerous operation and flight from a police officer.

The victim was not seriously hurt during this incident and law enforcement has since recovered his stolen vehicle.

“As a result of the rising incidents of violence related to auto crimes across the GTA, local police services have combined resources and established a Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force to further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts in combating these crimes,” a York Regional Police news release said. “This collaborative approach aims to disrupt the networks responsible for violent and high-risk auto thefts and maximize enforcement efforts against criminal organizations.”

This task force is co-led by the Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police. It brings together various police services throughout the GTA including York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Peel Regional Police, as well as external agencies like Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 6630 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. You can leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips. com
