Authorities have identified a vehicle with stolen licence plates from Ajax that is linked to several arson incidents in the Greater Toronto Area.
Recently, York Regional Police announced they are looking for witnesses related to three suspected arsons at a business in Richmond Hill.
At around 5:15 a. m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, two individuals in a black Honda Accord were seen arriving at a plaza located at Leslie Street and East Wilmot Street. Police claim that the passenger was observed breaking the front door of a business and entering while carrying a red jerry can.
According to police reports, the suspect was later seen fleeing from the business just before an explosion occurred along with visible red flames.
The suspects then drove away from the scene in the vehicle, which investigators believe had been stolen in Toronto.
On Friday, Aug. 21, at approximately 5:20 a. m., two suspects were spotted again at the same plaza, this time in a dark SUV. The passenger approached another business with a red jerry can, poured gasoline near the entrance, and set it on fire.
Police say these suspects escaped in an SUV that they suspect was also stolen from Toronto.
Around 3:15 a. m. on Aug. 26, three suspects arrived at the same plaza in another black SUV. It’s alleged that two passengers smashed the front window of one business before entering with jerry cans and igniting another fire. In this case, authorities say that the vehicle used had licence plates taken from an Ajax vehicle.
