York Region Public Health has flagged Costco Richmond Hill, Grand Genesis Pharmasave, and the emergency departments at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital as possible exposure sites.
Following a confirmed case of measles, four locations in Richmond Hill and Vaughan have been marked as potential exposure spots, as stated in a news release from York Region Public Health.
If you visited the following places during these times, it’s important to watch for symptoms for 21 days after exposure. Please also visit york. ca/Measles Reporting to fill out a quick contact follow-up survey and assess your risk:
Costco Richmond Hill at 35 John Birchall Road on Sunday, July 27 between 3:30 and 7:30 p. m.
Grand Genesis Pharmasave at 9080 Yonge St., Unit 6A in Richmond Hill on Monday, July 28 between 4:30 and 7 p. m.
Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital – Emergency Room Waiting Room at 10 Trench St. on Wednesday, July 30 between 3:30 and 6:30 p. m.
Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – Emergency Department, Pharmacy and Tim Hortons at 3200 Major Mackenzie Dr. West in Vaughan on Thursday, July 31 between 9:30 a. m. and 3:30 p. m.
The public health authority advises that anyone who might have been exposed at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital or Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital should check that they’ve had two doses of the measles vaccine. Those who were at either hospital during the potential exposure times may be eligible for a post-exposure vaccine clinic.
If you were at Mackenzie or Cortellucci with an infant under six months old or if you’re immunocompromised, please call York Region Public Health right away since you could qualify for preventative treatment.
Ontario is currently dealing with a multi-jurisdictional measles outbreak due to rising measles cases globally in 2024. According to the latest report, there have been 2,301 measles cases in Ontario this year alone and a total of 4,206 across Canada.
