A large search is still underway on Friday in the Renfrew area after a woman was “seriously assaulted” on Thursday.

According to provincial police, the situation began when a woman arrived at a local hospital claiming she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel located on Stewart Street.

The victim mentioned that she was familiar with the suspect and that he had a handgun.

The man was later seen walking in the vicinity.

Officers tried to apprehend him, but he escaped onto the Algonquin Trail.

While authorities believed there was no immediate danger to the public, they issued a shelter in place advisory shortly after 9 p. m. “out of an abundance of caution.”

The advisory was lifted just before 1 a. m. Friday morning, as it appeared that the suspect had successfully fled the area.

Authorities have identified the suspect and are seeking an arrest warrant.

His name has not been released yet.

Police describe him as Black, standing between five feet nine inches and six feet tall (175-183 cm), with hair on top and shaved sides. He has a goatee along with a five-star tattoo above his left eyebrow and another tattoo beneath his left eye.

He was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket, possibly black shorts and a blue shirt.

Anyone who spots this individual or notices any suspicious activity should call 911 right away. Do not approach him.

Police urged the man to contact the Renfrew OPP to turn himself in.

Anyone with information or relevant doorbell, dashcam, or surveillance video is encouraged to reach out to the Renfrew OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident E251166365.
