Eight individuals are facing charges related to impaired driving after separate investigations conducted by the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police between June 20 and July 6.

The police stated that these investigations were prompted by traffic complaints, roadside checks, traffic enforcement, and alerts from an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system across Pembroke and various municipalities in Renfrew County.

On June 20, just after 3 p. m., officers responded to a report about a vehicle being driven erratically on Pembroke Street West in Pembroke. The police found the vehicle shortly afterward and took the driver to the detachment for further testing. A 52-year-old man from Pembroke was charged with operation while impaired and is set to appear in court in Pembroke on July 21.

On June 27, shortly after 7 a. m., police pulled over a speeding vehicle on Highway 41 in Laurentian Valley Township. During this investigation, officers utilized a roadside screening device before taking the driver for additional testing. A 41-year-old woman from Laurentian Valley Township was charged with impaired operation along with several offences under the Highway Traffic Act. She is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 4.

The following day, on June 28 at around 9:30 p. m., officers responded to multiple reports of a vehicle acting suspiciously on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills Township. After locating the vehicle and conducting roadside screenings as well as further testing, they charged a 31-year-old woman from Gatineau with impaired operation. She is also due in court on Aug. 4.

A little over an hour later, just past 10:30 p. m., officers stopped another vehicle on Bennett Street in Pembroke after receiving an ALPR notification indicating that the registered owner had a suspended license. Following their investigation, they charged a 34-year-old man from Pembroke with impaired operation, operating while prohibited, public mischief, and multiple offences under both the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. He’s expected to appear in court on Aug. 4.

On June 29, shortly after 3:30 p. m., police were called out regarding a possible impaired driver on Rantz Road in Petawawa. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and transported them for further testing. A 41-year-old woman from Pembroke faced charges for impaired operation, possession of a Schedule I substance, and failing to comply with probation conditions. She’s set to be in court on Aug. 10.

Later that evening, just before 7 p. m., several complaints came through about what seemed like an impaired ATV driver on Highway 28 within Brudenell-Lyndoch-Raglan Township. After finding the ATV and performing roadside screenings plus further testing, they charged a resident from Palmer Rapids who is aged 62 with impaired operation along with operating while prohibited and dangerous operation as well as violations related to both the Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Act. This individual will appear in court on Aug. 4.

On July 3 at just past four p. m., police carried out a RIDE program stop at Augsburg Road in Bonnechere Valley Township where they investigated one driver using a roadside screening test before transporting them for more extensive testing procedures. A local resident aged 44 from Eganville was charged with impaired operation; he will face court on Aug. 11.

The last incident happened early morning July 6 when police got reports of someone possibly driving impaired at a parking lot located at John Street in Pembroke around one o’clock AM. Officers tracked down this driver for testing purposes afterward. A man aged 30 from Pembroke has been charged with operating while impaired alongside two counts of possessing substances listed under Schedule I. He is scheduled for his hearing date which falls onto August 18

In all these cases , police have imposed immediate suspensions of each driver’s license lasting up to ninety days along side vehicles getting impounded lasting seven days too. Any vehicles linked directly towards prohibited driving charges endured extended periods extending upto forty-five days during those situations mentioned above.
