The winning name may have changed, but the party remains the same: CBC reports that Progressive Conservative Billy Denault has claimed victory in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.

This riding covers Renfrew County and part of the District of Nipissing, which includes Madawaska, Whitney, and eastern Algonquin Park. It also encompasses Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.

PC John Yakabuski served as MPP here since 2003, initially winning by just 645 votes over the Liberals before increasing his lead to at least 15,000 votes in later elections.

Yakabuski chose not to run for re-election. A total of six candidates competed for the seat.

Denault is a town councillor from Arnprior with experience in accounting and financial management. Approximately 55 percent of local voters supported him, giving him a margin of about 14,500 votes over the Liberals.
